Bardel Entertainment

After over 20 years in the same studio, the award-winning Bardel Entertainment wanted to re-examine their team’s workflow and infrastructure. They had the opportunity to do that in a brand-new shell space at 425 West 6th Avenue.

Conceptually, the project in based on their animation process; taking a hand-drawn sketch and developing an entire digital world. Organic, sketched line elements are visible in carpet patterns, decorative light fixtures, and wall graphics. Pixelated flooring details, high contrast colour blocking and sharp angles were used to depict the digital side of their process.

These elements are used throughout the space to define gathering points and passages from work to play areas. Beyond the look of the space, there was a major focus on technical infrastructure. We worked with the client IT team and our consultant group to create a centralized server space that is state of the art. With over 20 self-cooling racks within a secure and temperature-controlled space, this was by far our largest and most complex server room designs. Serving open work areas, editing suites, review rooms and meeting spaces, this is truly the heart of this cutting-edge workspace.

Rounding out the space is a well-equipped gathering space and kitchen as well as an arcade and lounge. Bardel’s new space supports both their design purposes and their work hard, play hard culture.
