If you haven’t spent time checking out Kickstarter campaigns, you’re missing out on sneak peeks at some fantastic creative projects AND the opportunity to make them happen! With all the great projects to choose from it can be a little overwhelming so we thought we’d share some of our current favourite campaigns with you. We’re partial to anything design-related, community-focused or just plain fun but if these ones aren’t your cup-o-tea, they may at least get you thinking of your own or searching for others.
Warning: you may become addicted to watching these often funny, sometimes verklempting, and almost always inspiring videos.
First up is a series of beautifully simple graphics depicting 95 different philosophies; Philographics. By helping this designer get his project off the ground you’ll also be buying yourself some art … and becoming aware of all sorts of ‘isms’ that you may currently be unaware of.
We actually ordered one of these babies! The NeoLucida; a Camera Lucida for the 21st century. If you don’t know what a Camera Lucida is, you’re not alone (we had no idea – in fact this may end up being our next Defining Design post). It’s a prism-based drawing tool that helps you to view a subject in front of you as you sketch it. Just watch the video and be amazed!
And finally; Modern Sprout, a small and attractive self-watering planter for growing your own herbs, flowers or produce indoors. When mourning the loss of every plant-turned-dry-stick on my window sill, I often wonder: ‘why can’t you just water yourself?’. Turns out they can! A very cool way to bring life into any space and a great growing solution for small spaces.
