The Modern Craft

Imagine taking the Mad Men office into the current day and age. All the polished professionalism and cutting edge creativity mixed together in a cocktail shaker of style. That’s The Modern Craft.

This space spent the last 40 years as a dark and compartmentalized law-office but this team saw through all that. Well, mostly to the gorgeous view of Vancouver Harbour, but still! We were tasked with creating an inspiring office for this growing creative agency with a studio feel. We started with an open plan and an open kitchen that plays double duty as a collaboration area and happy hour gathering place. Complete with a full-loaded bar.

Playing on the geometry of the now-exposed waffle slab ceiling and the triangle motif of their own branding, we worked with lines in this space to give it a dynamic feel. Interesting floor transitions, angled wood planks and diagonal paint transitions blend these elements together. The client’s own retro furnishings were another jumping of point, injecting more colour and mad-men vibes. We built on this with a board room set up straight out of Cooper Sterling. Complete with large swivel chairs upholstered in tangerine. The boardroom (and the whole team for that matter) looks out over the view they first fell in love with. We raise our martini glass to this space and this team. – cheers!
