I was in Ontario’s Prince Edward County last week visiting friends & family and managed to sneak in one of my favourite activities … thrifting! Junking, antiquing, picking, second-hand shopping … whatever you call it, I love it.  Toronto and the surrounding rural areas have some of the best spots for scoping out dusty gems just waiting to be gussied up for the right location.  Also, the prices are actually still reasonable (not like in CERTAIN West Coast cities that shall remain nameless … *cough* Vancouver *cough*).   Here’s what I came across on my travels:

This is one of my favourite little shops, mostly because of its name; Dead People’s Stuff.

A box of old wallpaper!

Old tools and farm/dairy equipment like this are a GOLD MINE on the west coast … in this area, it’s just old tools and farm equipment.

Poor Colin had to stand around while I opened every one of the Matryoshka dolls that they had in this store.  Love these things … and they get so darn tiny!

Some great little furniture pieces just itching for a make-over:

Photographic evidence that the teak sofa above was only $245.00 (!!!!????) … sadly, it was also sold.

Love the colours and patterns on this old soap box:

This little antique school desk was only $45! … and I’m only now noticing that killer rug underneath it. Tragic oversight.

One shop in Toronto had a whole set of bumper cars from a closed-down carnival.  Bumper car kids bed? 6-year-old me would have lost her mind.

That’s just a taste of what I saw.  I’m seriously considering buying a one-way ticket next time so that I can fill up a cargo van and drive it back with all my treasures.  From picker to hoarder is a slippery slope my friends.  Happy hunting!
