Run As You Are redefines the running experience by combining retail, diagnostics, training, and community-building in one unified space. An evolution of our original design for Vancouver Running Company in 2015, this flagship store on Vancouver’s West 4th is a thoughtfully crafted hub for runners of all levels.
The space balances retail, training, and social areas with modular displays designed to adapt for events, social gatherings, and seasonal changes. Drawing from West Coast aesthetics, the interior showcases wood, concrete, and crisp white finishes — a neutral yet inviting canvas that amplifies RAYA’s dynamic apparel and footwear.
Spacious lounge-inspired fitting rooms offer comfort and privacy. A dedicated diagnostics training area supports runners with specialized assessment equipment. Sound mitigation was carefully incorporated to reduce treadmill noise and create a serene environment for physiotherapy and massage treatments.
RAYA's brand is built around inclusivity and the idea that running is for everyone. The space needed to welcome a first-time jogger and an elite marathoner with equal comfort — while also functioning as a retail environment, a diagnostics clinic, a training space, and a community venue. Acoustic separation between the treadmill area and treatment rooms was a significant technical challenge in a compact 5,000 sq ft footprint.
The modular retail zones have proven their flexibility, adapting seamlessly for product launches, community runs, and seasonal resets. The diagnostics area has driven a meaningful increase in assessment bookings. Most importantly, the space achieves what few retail environments do — people come back not just to buy, but to belong.
